Record Consignment from Timaru.— A record consignment of 10,000 tons of potatoes and general cargo for Auckland is at present being lifted at the Port of Timaru by the Samnethy. With the Kakapo also loading coastal cargo, about 150 men, including about 50 “seagulls,” were engaged on Monday to fully man the ships. An official of the Waterside Workers’ Union said that the year so far had been a record one for coastal cargo, and after the Samnethy and Kakapo had been loaded a good clearance would have been effected from the port.
