WEDNESDAY (Before Mr H. P. Lawry, S.M.) CHARGES OF THEFT John Laird Taylor (Mr J. K. Moloney), who had previously been sentenced to imprisonment in the Supreme Court on another charge, was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence if called on in two years on each of four charges —three of the theft of bicycles and one of the theft of an overcoat. Restitution, amounting in all to £l5 10s, is to be made as the Probation Officer directs.

REMANDED Patrick William Mollis Comber was remanded to Friday on a charge of incurring a debt of £1 10s by a fraudulent representation.

May Feona Gilling was remanded to August 14 on a charge of the theft of £3 5s 3d, the property of Elizabeth Anne Roberts.

DRUNKENNESS Maurice Browne, a second offender for drunkenness, was fined £1 in default 24 hours’ imprisonment.

MILK BELOW STANDARD Ernest Clode was fined £2 for selling milk below the standard imposed by the Sale of Food and Drugs Act. It was stated that the milk had been supplied to Clode by a vendor who had previously been before the Court.

BUILDING WITHOUT PERMITS A number of informations were brought by the Building Controller, for whom Mr A. W. BroWn appeared, against firms and individuals for building without the required permits. Penalties were imposed as follows:

Albert Maxwell Hegarty (Mr K. J. MeMenamin), fined £25 on one charge concerning a house built to a size beyond that permitted; fined £2 for building a shed for James Francis Peterson.

James Francis Peterson (Mr G. G. Lockwood), £5 for having a shed built. Wallace Mansell Jones (Mr T. K. Papprill), £5 for building a shed. Francis Henry Arthur Lamb (Mr D. W. Russell), £3 for building a garage.

L. D. Marker (Mr H. S. J. Goodman). £7 10s for building a storeroom. B. Moore and Sons (Mr R. Thompson), £3 for carrying out repairs and alterations for Textile Industries. Ltd. Textile Industries. Ltd. (Mr W. Cuningham, jun.), £3 for having work done. Denis Bowen Patterson (Mr J. Wickes), for building a shed. £5. Gordon Francis Worsford, for building a garage, £5. CUSTOMS BREACH Raymond James Woodward, of Wellington, was fined £5O, in default three months’. imprisonment, for having in his possession tobacco on which Customs duty had not been paid. Newmarket, Ltd. (Mr R. A. Young) was fined £2 for employing a female worker before the hour of 8 a.m. It was stat ed that the girl had started work at 7 a.m. at her own request, so that she could finish work at 2 p.m.
