EXCHANGE OF STUDENTS
N.Z. AND FRENCH UNIVERSITIES
GOVERNMENT SYMPATHETIC (P.A.) WELLINGTON, July 19. The exchange of lecturers and students between the Universities of France and New Zealand is contemplated by the Government of both countries. The French Minister to New Zealand (Mr M. A. Gazel) said to-day that he had conferred with the Minister of Education (the Hon. H. G. R. Mason) and the Director of Education (Dr. C. E. Beeby), both of whom were in sympathy with the plan. Advice was now awaited from the French Government concerning the acceptance of concrete proposals. It was hoped, said Mr Gazel, to put the plan into operation before the beginning of the French University term in November. The selection of lecturers and
students would be left entirely in the hands of each Government, which would be responsible for their passage money. Their subsequent expenses in each country would be paid by the Government of that country.
