Prayers for Poll on Sunday Cinemas. —With breaks only for tea and cakes, a congregation of 700 in a Baptist Church in Torquay prayed throughout Saturday night for the opposition’s success at a poll being held to-day on the opening of cinemas on Sundays. The cinemas stated their case on the screen and by loudspeaker vans touring the streets. The congregation of another Baptist church last night took over th§ praying.—London. May 27. Anti-Inflation Measures in Hungary. —Seven hundred Government decrees will have to be put into operation to start on August 1 new .reforms, including new money and stricter rationing in an effort to halve, Hungary’s runaway inflation. Financial authorities state that the new money will be based on crops, increased coal production, and a reduction in the number of State employees. May 26 London Bell for New Zealand School. —A bell from the Avonmore School in Fulham, a populous district of West London, where the school was destroyed by enemy action, will hang in a New Zealand school as the result of a request to the New Zealand High Commissioner (Mr Jordan), while he was in the Dominion by the secretary of the Waitara School, who asked for such a memento for the new district high school which will be opened next year.
