WAREHOUSE WORKERS’ AWARD
PROVISIONS FOR CANTERBURY DISTRICT The new Canterbury warehouse employees’ award embodies the recommendations of the assessors after meeting in Conciliation Council, the only matter referred to the Arbitration Court for settlement being wages. The minimum weekly wage for senior warehousemen is £5 17s 3d, but workers with more than 11 years’ service, or who are more than 28 years of age, are to receive £6 2s 3d a week. Travellers are to be paid not less than £6 7s 3d for the first year, and thereafter £6 9s 9d. The rate for senior females is £3 13s a week. The wage rates of the award are subject to the Court’s two cost-of-living bonuses. The award, which does not apply to male workers receiving more than £420 a year, will come into force next Monday. Ordinary hours of work are not to exceed 40 hours a week nor eight hours a day on five days a week, but employees may be required to work on Saturday mornings at time and a half rates. The following holidays are to be obseAred: Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year’s Day, January 2, Anzac Day, Good Friday, Easter Monday, the King’s Birthday, Labour Day, and Show Day.
