AUSTRALIAN LABOUR POSITION

(Rec. 9 p.m.) SYDNEY. May 7. “The world shortage of yarns, which is just as serious as the shortage of foodstuffs, is the result of lack of labour,’’ said the Minister of Supply and Shipping (Senator W. P. Ashley) in an appeal for female labour for the textile industry. “Australia is exporting cloth which she needs herself, because she must sell enough to pay for essential imports and interest on loans and to establish goodwill.” Senator Ashley said that current imports were from £20.000.000 to £30,000,000 in excess of exports. GERMAN SCIENTISTS TO WORK IN BRITAIN

LONDON. May 6. Twenty-five German scientists who formerly were working at German research stations, are to be brought to Britain to assist British scientists in the aerodynamics of jet development, said the’ Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Supply (Mr A. Woodburn) in the House of Commons.
