RUSSIA’S FOOD STOCKS

“PLANS REMAIN A MYSTERY”

RESERVES OF GRAIN AND FATS (Itec. 8 p.m.) WASHINGTON, May 6. The United States Secretary of Agriculture (Mr Clinton Anderson) said that the Soviet plans for joining the British and American attempts to pool international food supplies for famine relief remained a mystery to the British and American officials. The Soviet, in spite of repeated requests, never advised the Combined Food Board of her grain and fat reserves.

The board’s only information regarding Soviet food moves was obtained through secret intelligence. “We don’t expect to tell the Russians what they should do with their wheat. We merely like to know how much they intend to give for famine relief so that the board can allocate British, American, and Canadian supplies accordingly,” he said.
