“WANT TO AVOID BLOODSHED” (Rec. 7.30 p.m.) LONDON, May 8. “Britain cannot forget that Franco was her enemy and that the Spanish Republic, which was democratic and liberal, was ‘attacked and momentarily defeated by the same element against which Britain fought during the war,” said Senor Giral (head of the former Republican Government), speaking at a press conference in LonSenor Giral, who is going to New York on May 12, where he is presentIng a memorandum to the Security Council on the Franco regime, said that his Government had not asked for military intervention in Spain from anyone. It would be sufficient to make the nations' expressed moral condemnations of the Franco regime effective, with international action. “The Republican Government could have overthrown Franco by starting a civil war, but we want to avoid more bloodshed in my country. Those who Intend to return democracy and freedom to Spain will never let loose a civil war upon her people.”
