TREATY WITH RUMANIA

The Foreign Ministers’ Conference, fcfter reaching a deadlock on the Ital-ian-Jugoslav frontier issue, instructed the deputies to begin an examination of the Balkan treaties, states the correspondent of the Associated Press in an earlier message. The Rumanian treaty will be dealt with first. Reuter’s correspondent states that the offer of Mr Molotov to make concessions on Italian colonies and reparations in return for acceptance of Jugoslavia's claim on Trieste is believed to be one of the subjects discussed. The decision to proceed to consideration of the Balkan treaties is seen as a hopeful sign that the Italian question is a step nearer solution.

Correspondents state that to-day’s informal session seems to have found no solution of the Italian-Jugoslav frontier question. To-morrow’S full session must be awaited before a clear idea could be obtained of what had been happening during the last two days. To-day’s informal meeting discussed the future of Trieste, reparations, and Italian colonies, but the gap between opposing viewpoints seemed to be as wide as ever. Correspondents consider that there is now less chance than ever of the terms of the Italian peace treaty being solved in isolation and that they will have to be solved within the wider framework of an eastern European settlement..
