The Minister of Works (the Hon. R. Semple) left Christchurch yesterday for Alexandra, Central Otago.
Major-General H. K. Kippenberger, C. 8., C.8.E., D. 5.0., and bar, E.D., will be the guest of honour at a luncheon given by the Christchurch Returned Services’ Association on Thursday of next week.
Mr J. Sawers, general manager of the New Zealand Railways, will leave Christchurch to-day for Dunedin. He will return to Wellington next week.
In recognition of valuable services rendered, Warrant Officer N. J. MacKenzie has been mentioned in dispatches, according to advice received from London by the Air Department, Wellington. His next-of-kin is his father, Mr J. H. MacKenzie. of Tai Thpu.—-(P.A.)
Mr E. G. Mitchell, who has been secretary of the Canterbury Rugby Union for the last five years, has resigned from this position. At last evening’s meeting of the management committee, the resignation was accepted with regret.
Mr A. Gow was elected DeputyGrand Master at the biennial| conference of the Manchester Unity, Independent Order of Oddfellows.— (P.A.) Tributes to the work of Mr George Claydon, who has been a member of the Christchurch Cathedral Society of Bellringers, were paid by the Master of the Society (Mr G. N. Sloan) and by Dean Warren at a welcome to returned servicemen of the society last evening. On behalf of the members, Mr Sloan presented Mr Claydon with an easy chair.
