MATINEE MEETING

TWO-YEAR-OLDS AT ADDINGTON

Poor support was accorded by owners and trainers to the Matinee Meeting run by the combined Christchurch Trotting Clubs at Addington yesterday. The race for maiden trotters, for which divisions had been arranged, attracted only 12 nominations and 11 horses faced the barrier. . The meeting was arranged to give owners a chance to qualify their horses for races above the maiden classes, and good stakes were provided. The reason of the poor support is hard to understand when the unwieldy fields at totalisator meetings are considered. Special interest was taken in the Two-year-old Parade, which did not carry stake money, but attracted a field of 11 well-bred young pacers. The race was run over seven furlongs and while the finish was not fought very seriously the race was a good work-out for two-year-olds with classic engagements. to pass the post was Likely, by Grattan Loyal from Erehom, a' well-bred mare by Travis Axworthy—Lady Rey by Rey de Oro—Lady Pointer by Logan Pointer. She paced evenly all through and apparently possesses the right racing temperament. Likely is trained by M. Holmes, who also filled third place with Tree Fignt, a bay colt by the Roydon Lodge stallion, Light Brigade, from Rustic Maid, the dam of Highland Scptt, Scottish Lady, Gallant Maid, Slavonic, and Rustic Gold. In second place was Pirouette, a goodloolcing filly by Grattan Loyal from Lady Slipper.
