TRANSIT HOUSING IN DUNEDIN
GOVERNMENT LIKELY TO BUY SITE fP.A.) DUNEDIN, May 7. An announcement that the Government was likely, within a few days, to purchase a property at Tomahawk on which is situated that portion of a military camp required for transit housing purposes, and to hand it over to the council, was made by the Mayor (Mr D. C. Cameron) at last night’s meeting of the Dunedin City Council. The Mayor said the owner had not been prepared to grant the council a lease, as he had not reached any finality in his claims against the Army Department A deputation had waited on the Minister of Defence (the Hon. F. Jones) who had taken the matter up in Wellington, said the Mayor, and it was now expected that the Government would purchase the property, and hand it over to the council. <
