RAINFALL IN APRIL ABOVE NORMAL

— REAPINGS AT CHRISTCHURCH OBSERVATORY Observations taken at the Christchurch Magnetic Observatory last month show that April was wetter than normally, rain being registered on 12 days. There was a total fall of 2.29 in compared with the average of 1.834 in. The mean air temperature was slightly below the average of 53.4 deg. F.. as were the earth temperatures at 3ft and sft. Of the five frosts recorded, the one of 4deg. was the most severe. In April, 1945, there were 11 frosts, the greatest being 7deg. Hours of sunshine totalled 145.2, against the average of 136.7.
