It is estimated that for every ton of dry matter produced in plants, from 200 to 300 tons of water are given off. A heavy crop of turnips might transpire as much as 1000 tons of water an acre. In view of recent cablegrams from overseas speculating on tne possible prices for wool when the Joint Organisation takes over next season, late quotations for 64’s tops in Bradford are interesting. The latest pricq was 43? d per lb for Home civilian trade issue, and 47d for export. In the last pre-war year, 1938-39, quotatipnS for 64’s ranged from 24jd to 26U.
