SOUTH ISLAND’S POWER SUPPLY
RESTRICTIONS NOT EXPECTED
DEMAND STILL GROWING Although the demand for electric power is increasing in the South Island at about the same rate as in the North Island, no shortage is expected in the South Island this winter. This information was given by the general manager of the State HydroElectric Department (Mr F. T. M. Kissel) in a telephone interview yesterdMr Kissel said the South Island should get through the winter without the restrictions which were operating in the north. The demand was increasing, but the department was preparing to meet it in later years by additional generating plant, including that at Tekapo.
