TRAMWAY BUS FLEET
13 ENGLISH CHASSIS ARRIVING
Six bus chassis are expected to arrive by the end of June from England for the Christchurch Tramway Board, and a further seven chassis are expected a month later. This information was given to the board yesterday by the chairman (Mr H. Kitson). The bodies for &ght of the chassis will be constructed* in the board’s own workshops, and tenders called for the remainder.
So far the board has received five buses from a Petone firm of motorbody builders, which received a contract for 20 bodies for Ford V 8 chassis, and five will be shipped from Wellington this week. The remaining 10 bodies are in various stages of construction, but the completion of the whole contract has been promised by June 30.
The extension of the motor workshops in Moorhouse avenue was necessary because of the large increase in the board’s bus fleet, reported the works and traffic committee. The tender of Mr N. Caldwell, of £5507 had been accepted for the extensions. Six tenders were received. Approval had been given for the purchase of a Churchill cylinder grinder at a cost of £1230. f
