Iraq Government Declares Opposition IMMIGRATION PLAN “AN AGGRESSIVE ACT”

The Government of Iraq, protesting against the Palestine report, expressed the opinion that acceptance of it would lead to bloodshed and uneasiness in the Middle East. The Government described the British-American Commission as illegal, and said that the immigration of 100,000 Jews to Palestine, as recommended, would be regarded as an aggressive act against Arab rights and international law. Iraq asked Britain to wait until the United Nations discussed the question. Unofficial Arab sources in Jerusalem said nothing was known of any appeal to place the Palestine case before the United Nations.

[The “New York Times” reports that it appears unlikely that the Palestine problem will be submitted to the Security Council in the immediate future. British and American sources in New York indicated that Arab and Jewish dissatisfaction with the committee’s inquiry was qo reason for placing Palestine on the agenda.]

In Palestine, the situation is now officially described as “nil quiet.” The Jerusalem correspondent of the Exchange Telegraph Agency says that the Jewish resistance movement, including the Stern Gdng, has issued a joint statement guaranteeing “full peace” if 100,000 Jewish immigrants are admitted to Palestine, but Saying that the resistance movements are not willing to give up their arms.

A New Delhi message says that the Alt-India Moslem League lias named May 10 “Palestine Day,” when protest meetings should be held throughout India.
