Hospital Board Levy
“The increase in hospital taxation is staggering; the position is unbearable and it cannot go on," said the Mayor of Nelson, Mr E. R. Neale, when the Nelson City Council considered the levy made by the Nelson Hospital Board for the 1946-47 financial year. The levy on the council had increased from £2629 in 1928-29 to £14,588 for the coming year.
