STEEL TOWERS TO BE BUILT
NEW N.Z. FACTORY FOR HYDRO SCHEMES (P.A.) WELLINGTON, May 3. More than 1300 galvanised steel towers for the State Hydro-electric Department are to be made in New Zealand. The contract has been let, and a galvanising factory equal in size to any in Australia, with probably the most modern equipment in the. Southern Hemisphere, is to be established. There would probably be work for an additional 250 to 300 men in the factory, said the Minister of Works (the Hon. R. Semple) in making this announcement. The manufacture of towers in this country, he added, would effect a saving in Overseas funds of approximately £260,000.
