NORTH CANTERBURY DRAINAGE
Sir,—l read in “The Press” that at a meeting of local bodies, held at Rangiora recently, a resolution was carried that approval be given to the scheme outlined for North Canterbury drainage. I am given to understand that the chairman of the Eyre County Council and his fellow -members were not in favour of the proposal. This, in my opinion as a ratepayer, and not a small one, is the view of the majority of the ratepayers. I submit that before any attempt is made to load the ratepayers of this area with a rate of any description, a poll of the ratepayers should be taken. This, I maintain. should be insisted upon, and I wish to express my appreciation to the chairman of the Eyre County Council and his associates, for their views, which are widely known throughout the Eyre county.—Yours, etc., EAST EYRETON RATEPAYER. May 2, 1946.
