WAIMAIRI POWER POLL
Proposal Carried
MAJORITY .OF 137 VOTES The power supply of the Waimairi County will be taken over by the Municipal Electricity Department, as a poll held on Saturday to decide the matter resulted in a majority of 137 votes for the proposal. The polling figures are subject to official count, but it is extremely unlikely that the result will be upset. There were 10,855 names on the roll, which was the same as would be used in a county election, as distinct from the ratepayers’ roll used in the Waimairi Power Board election, and a total of 4604 persons voted at the various polling booths. The voting was light during the morning, said the returning officer (Mr H. A. Ferguson), but the polling places became busier during the afternoon. The poll closed at 6 p.m. and the fihal results were announced shortly after 10 p.m, The figures were as follows: For the proposal .. 2346 Against the proposal .. 2209 Informal .. 49
The official count will start this morning, and the final figures will be available later in the week.
