MACKENZIE COUNTRY SHEEP SALE

The opening sale of the season, the annual sale of Mackenzie Country sheep, was held yesterday at the Tekapo saleyards, when a small offering of 9000 sheep was offered to a good attendance of local buyers as well as others who came from Canterbury, Otago, and Southland. The sale opened in the lamb- section with a rather disappointing comparison with last year’s vfllues, prices being easier by 2s 6d a head. In the wether section prices were at a high level, and can be quoted at an increase ot 2s to 3s a head on last year, the annual draft of 383 twotooth wethers from the Wolds Station making 26s lOd. The demand for good class Merino ewes was fully up to last year’s range of values, but the inferior sorts met with an indifferent inquiry. Four and fiveyear halfbred ewes met with a dragging sale, values being easier than last year. Sales were;— Glenmore Station: 551 halfbred wethers (one-shear), 22s 9d to 235; 460 halfbred ewes, s.m., 10s to Ils 6d. The Wolds: 380 halfbred wethers, twotooth, 26s lOd. Mount John: 207 halfbred wether lambs, 15s 6d; 103 half bred ewes, two-tooth, 21s 3d. Holbrook: 55 ewe lambs, 7s 6d; 71 halfbred wethers, 20s 3d. Mount Hay: 61 Merino ewes, two-tooth, passed at 17s; 61 Merino wethers, twotooth, 15s 6d; 152 Merino wethers, f.m.. 13s 2d.
