BRITISH SERVICES ESTIMATES

(Rec. 8 p.m.) LONDON, Feb. 28. The British Army estimates for 1946 show that the number of men on the establishment, excluding the Indian establishment, will be 2,950,000. This will be the maximum effective total for the year. The grand total required for all Army services, effective and non-effective, will be £682,000,000. A vote, on account, of £450,000,000 is required for the first four or five months. The Army estimates provide £1,601,000 for educational establishments.

The naval estimates, including more than £5,000,000 for merchant shipbuilding, total £238,000,000. The maximum number of officers, seamen, boys, and Royal Marines will be 490 000. The Air estimates provide for a maximum number of officers and airmen, excluding India, of 760,000. The total sum required is £255,000,000, including a vote on account, of £150,000,000.
