INDIAN TROOPS IN INDONESIA
REPLY TO CONGRESS PARTY
GENERAL AUCHINLECK’S STATEMENT
(Rec. 8 p.m.) LONDON, Feb. 28. The statement by the Commanderin?Chief, India (General Sir Claude Auchinleck) that Indian troops were evacuating Indonesia, was made in the Indian Council of State in reply to a Congress Party adjourprpent motion on ‘‘the continued employment of Indian troops for the purpose of suppressing the Indonesian national movement.”
Reuter’s Batavia correspondent reports that a spokesman of the Allied Force Headquarters in Indonesia denied long-current reports that British troops would evacuate Java in ApriL The spokesman said: ‘‘This is prohably wishful thinking. Our mission is un? changed.”
