THE SIEGE OF MALTA
LADY DOBBIE’S ADDRESS TO SCHOOL GIRLS The hardships endured by the people of Malta during the heavy bombing raids on the island were described yesterday by Lady Dobbie, wife of Lieu-tenant-General Sir William Dobbie. former Governor and Commander-in-Chief of Malta, when she addressed pupils of St. Margaret’s College. The message which she’ wished to leave with the girls, said Lady Dobbie, was that the rock of Malta was like salvation. No one was forced to go into the rock shelters; it was a person’s own responsibility, and in the same way salvation was a person’s own responsibility. Also, the Maltese people found that the man-made shelters on the island were no good, they had to trust in the shelters in the rock.. Similarly. trust in Christ was the important thing in life and not trust in our own good deeds.
