FORCES CLUBS IN ITALY CLOSED

February 13. , J All New Zealand clubs in Italy have i , been closed, and also the’ New Zealand i Forces .Club in Cairo, according to a i report received by the National Patrii otic Fund Board from its Commissioner r in the Middle East (Colonel F. Waite). ‘ The work in December included : equipping the brigade group for the J , Force, and Colonel Waite now expects 1 - to be able to leave early this month i on his return to the Dominion. Apart from what was needed for the t men for Japan, all equipment was being ; ; sold in Italy. ’ The Lowry Hut at advanced base j would be the last to close. There were ; I still New Zealand patients in the 63rd ' British Hospital at Cairo and the 78th British Hospital at Ismailia, and Mrs R. Blackford official New Zealand Red : Cross visitor, had returned to Egypt and had taken up visits to the hospitals again. The New Zealand'nurses left to look after these men, Colonel Waite reported, were serving to the end. “The departure of the Maunganu! should see the end of our Red Cross work in Egypt.” said Colonel Waite. ■ 1 “No troops have been looked after like ours. The medical, surgical, and nursj ing services have been of the highest standard and through our visiting sys- » tern all Kiwis have been given the } extra amenities and sympathetic word which the people of New Zealand desired them to have.” i
