< THURSDAY (Before Mr H. P. Lawry, S.M.) REMANDED James Henry Hammond, a salesman, aged 40, was charged with breaking and entering the shop of John William Thornton, 590 A Colombo street, and committing theft. On the application of the police, a remand till February 21 was granted. Bail was fixed at £lOO, with one surety of £lOO, or two of £5O each. LICENSING OFFENCES Frank S. Kirke, Alfred Mayo, William Norton, John Rolton. and Archibald Clark Turner were each fined £2 for consuming liquor on licensed premises after hours. Esther Burt, Myra Carver, Mabel Frew, Frank Miles, Marie Phillips, Theresa Roberts, Harris John Thompson, Myra Willis and Ronald Watson were each fined 20s for being found on licensed premises after hours. For giving a false name to the police, Watson was fined 20s. FINE IMPOSED Eric Preece was fined 10s for failing to give notice of a change of address as required by the provisions of the Arms Registration Act. CHARGE WITHDRAWN Colin James Kinley, aged 18. and Ronald Herd, aged 17, were charged with committing mischief by wilfully causing damage, estimated at £4 10s, to a pavilion at Woolston Park, The police agreed to withdraw the charge, provided that each defendant pay 15s to the Christchurch City Council. COMMITTED FOR SENTENCE McCausland Richard Illing, a printer, aged 44, was charged with indecent assault on a girl aged 12 years. He pleaded guilty, and was committed to the supreme Court for sentence. Bail was fixed at £2OO, with two sureties of £lOO each. CIVIL COURT (Before Mr A. A. McLachlan, S.M.) Judgment for plaintiff by default was given in the following civil cases:—Cash Order Purchases, Limited, trading under the name op style of G. S. Morse Cash Orders, of Christchurch, v. C. Hartshorne, 5s 3d; Frank A. Cook, Ltd., v. L. Pryde, £2l 3s 6d; Adams, Ltd., v. J. A. Batchelor, £7 Us 3d; Alpha Manufacturing Company v. Mrs D. A. Stephens, £l5 12s. On a judgment summons, E. W. Rosewarne was ordered to pay Modern Mechanics, Ltd., £22 13s forthwith, in default 21 days’ imprisonment.
