PLANS TO MEET FOOD CRISIS
WORLD CONFERENCE PROPOSED (Rec. 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, Feb. 13. In a telegram to UNO, the Food and Agriculture Organisation, established by the Quebec conference, said it proposed to call a world conference of its organisations to discuse the food crisis forecast for 1946-47. It suggests that countries with major contributions to make towards Increasing the production of basic foodstuffs, such as cereals, fats, and oils, should participate. Their responsible Ministers should be present to facilitate immediate action. UNO is considering the offer.
addition there is the Far East, where the figure must be terrifically large. “This is a disturbance of the world’s whole economic life. Statesmen must rise to their responsibility and take steps to save the mass of humanity from suffering which is not of their seeking. "With the available supplies under proper distribution, starvation in many areas may be avoidable. We must see that every pound and every ounce of food is properly used, not wasted.
