AUSTRALIAN DRAFT ARRIVES
FIRST CONTINGENT FROM EMPIRE (Rec. 5.5 p.m.) TOKYO, Feb. 13. The American transport Stamford Victory has arrived at Kure with 1200 Australian veterans of the Borneo campaign. These were the first British occupation troops to land in Japan, although an advance party moved into Kure 11 days earlier to prepare the once great naval base for the arrival of the troops. The Australian contingent was from the 7th and 9th Divisions, and was commanded by Lieutenant-Colonel A. H. Marlson.
