Polish Army in Italy.— The British Secretary for War (Mr J. J. Lawson) said in the House of Commons that the present strength of the Polish armed forces in Italy was approximately 107,000. Sir Stanley Reed (Conservative) asked Mr Lawson how long he proposed to keep that army in Italy “in a country where it is not wanted, doing jobs which do not exist, at the expense to the British taxpayer of nearly £2,000,000.” Mr Lawson said the matter was receiving the attention of the Foreign Secretary (Mr Bevin), who hoped to make a statement shortly.—London, February 12.
