GLADIOLUS AND DAHLIA SHOW Although the prolonged drought had caused a slight falling off in the number of entries, the display of blooms in the annual show of the Lyttelton Gladiolus and Dahlia Society, which opened in the Oddfellows’ Hall yesterday, was excellent and the judges were warm in their praise of the standard of foe exhibits. The award for the premier bloom in the gladiolus section went to Mr G. F. Roberts for “Miss New Zealand,” and in the dahlia section to Mrs M. C. Morgan for “Ballingers’ Glory.” Special prizes were awarded as follows:—Y.W.C.A. Challenge Cup: A. V. Stewart. Gardiner Cup: G. F. Roberts. Local Growers’ Cup: R. S. H. Cording. Le Comte Cup: Master G. Ticehurst. Gilmour Dahlia Cup: Mrs M. C. Morgan. A special display of gladioli was made by Mr W. R. Toon. The judges were:—gladioli, Dr. A. C. McKillop; dahlias, Mr W. R. Toon; decorative, Mrs O. M. Miller; vegetables, Mr H. H. H. Gardiner.
