TAXATION

Sir, —The letter received by his Worship the Mayor emphasises the plight of many thrifty people in whose way this Government has placed every obstacle, making no allowance for loss of capital. Because of Government policy they are finding it almost impossible to get a worthwhile income from their savings, yet are debarred by a means test from the benefits to which they contribute. In spite of the Government’s efforts in regimentation they will never stamp out individuality. anr* their discouragement of the thrifty will one day bring retribution.—Yours, etc., SUPERTAXED. February 12, 1946.
