COLLISION WITH SUBMARINE
BRITISH TRAWLER SUNK
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, February 11. The British submarine Saga has wirelessed Lloyd’s that she has been in collision with the trawler Girl Lena, which sank. All the trawler’s crew were taken aboard the Saga, which asked for medical assists nee to be ready when she puts into Plymouth. The steamer Empire Mombasa sent out an SOS after she developed engine trouble off Fuleskerry Rock, north of Cape Wrath. A lifeboat, answering the call, was fighting its way through tremendous seas, whipped up by a 60 miles an hour gale, when the Empire Mombasa reported that she was proceeding under her own steam. The lifeboat was recalled. The Empire Mombasa was on her maiden voyage. The Royal Navy’s latest aircraft carrier, H.M.S. Theseus, which was commissioned on January 9. has arrived at the Portsmouth dockyard after being damaged in • a collision with the dock landing ship Ocean Way. The ships were anchored dose together at Spithead. The Ocean Way dragged her anchors in a gale and ripped a hole in the after starboard side of the Theseus.
