RIFLE SHOOTING
SCHOOL CADET COMPETITIONS Twenty-four of the 50 school cadet teams on the honours list, including the first six, in the New Zealand section of the Imperial Shield and King George V. miniature rifle shooting competition for 1945, came from the Southern Military District. Tokomairiri High School (Milton), with an average of 87.235 points, headed the teams’ honours list and won the Governor-General’s trophy. This team has also been recommended to the National Rifle Association of Great Britain as 'New Zealand’s competitor for awards in the Junior Shield, Earl Haig Sword, and Lord Milner trophy. Christ’s College has been recommended for the Senior Shield and the Earl Jellicoe Sword.
Medals of honour were awarded as follows:—Silver medal: Cadet B. C. Tuson (Southland Boys’ High School), 97. Bronze medals: Cadet G. H. Davison (Christ’s College), 99; Cadet E. T. Thwaites (Southland Boys’ High School), Sergeant D. F. Graham (King’s College), Cadet K. D. Voltz (St. Augustine’s College), Sergeant E. T. Knox (Otahuhu Technical High School), and Sergeant D. F. Clapson (King’s College), all 96.
