NEW MARSHALS OF R.A.F.

TWO APPOINTMENTS ANNOUNCED

(Rec. 9 p.m.) LONDON, Jan. 1. Air Chief Marshal Sir William Sholto Douglas and Air Chief Marshal Sir Arthur Travers Harris have been promoted to the rank of marshal of the Royal Air Force with effect from to-day.

During the war Sir Sholto Douglas was Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief. Coastal Command, and Sir Arthur Harris was Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Bomber Command. The Australian New Year Honours List includes knighthoods to Mr Frederic Lloyd Dumas, chairman and managing-director of Adelaide Advertiser Newspapers, Ltd., and to Mr Edward Wheewall Holden, chairman of General Motors-Holden, Ltd. Alport Barker, proprietor of the Fiji “Times and Herald.” Military awards are:— C.B E.: Brigadier Dittmer, 0.8. E.; Commander H. A. Hill, R.N.R. M.8.E.: Captain J. p. Brodie, N.Z.E.F., and Captain R.
