A* hundred guests attended a cocktail party given by Mr Ivan K. Ziabkin, Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary of the U.S.S.R., and Mrs Ziabkin in Wellington. Mrs Ziabkm. who assisted her husband in receiving the guests, ware a three-quar-ter-length silver fox fur cape over her black frock, a black straw hat with black veiling and long white gloves. Young Royal terrace, Dunedin. OBITUARY MRS G. LESLIE RUTHERFORD Friends in many parts of ■ the Dominion will learn with deep regret of the death of Mrs Ethel Tazewell Rutherford, widow of Mr G. Leslie Rutherford, formerly one of the best-known station-holders in Canterbury. Mrs Rutherford had been in indifferent health for some time, but it was only within the last few weeks that she became critically ill. and her death occurred on Monday. She had lived practically all her life in Canterbury and she will long be remembered in North Canterbury for her kindness and for her gracious hospitality during the many years she liyed at McDonald Downs, Hawarden. After her husband's death, some years ago, she came to Jive in Christchurch. and during the war years she was actively interested in Red Cross work. She is survived by one dsi ghter, Mrs J ; Ensor (North Canterbury), and one son, Mr B. Rutherford (McDonald Downs). HEALTH STAMPS USE FOR REVENUE PERMITTED Representations have been made for some time past by the New Zealand Federation of Health Camps, seeking Government authority for the use of health stamps for revenue purposes. Information has now been received that in the Finance Bill, No. 2, which came before Parlisment in the closing stages of the session, provision was made for the use of health stpmps for the stamping of receipts. For that purpose, each denomination will have the same value as for postage purposes.
