U.S. SERVICEMEN’S DEPENDANTS
Transport To America From Overseas (Rec. 1 a.m.) NEW YORK, Dec. 13. Provision has been made to bring overseas wives and children of American Servicemen to the United States in large numbers as soon as possible, in decommissioned hospital ships. This news has been announced by the Army Transportation Corps. The corps faces the job with trepidation, pointing out that the wives are scattered in numerous countries. The Army is inexperienced in transporting babi:s and expectant mothers; fur■ihermore, nobody seems to know how many brides are overseas. For example. the Army estimates that there are about 5000 in New Zealand and Australia, whereas the English-speak-ing Union estimated that there were between 20,000 and 30.000. The New York ‘'Herald-Tribune” reports that the transport of European' brides may begin early in February, but does not mention the date for those from the Pacific regions.
