Public Apathy Deplored.—"lt was not too near Christmas, and it was not too wet when these men fought and died for us.” said the Mayor of Temuka (Mr George Harris) when he reported to the Temuka Borough Council that proximity to Christmas and wet weather were given as reasons tor the poor attendance which caused the abandonment of a meeting called at Temuka to consider a memorial worthy of district men who had fallen. P r - , L - F - N. Ward: “The apathy is to be deplored. The public want a rude to arouse their consciences and enthusiasm in providing a worthy tribute to the fallen.”
