Mrs L. G. Billcliff, who has been secretary of the Canterbury Federation \of Women's Institutes, has resigned from that position for health reasons. At a meeting of the executive of the federation, the president, Miss E. M. Le Lievre, said that Mrs Billcliff had been most efficient and. assiduous in carrying out her duties, and that the committee greatly regretted her resignation. Mrs Davis was appointed to succeed Mrs Billcliff.

The Sunlight League health camp committee gratefully acknowledges receipt of two donations—one of £5 5s and another of £2—from anonymous friends for Christmas cheer for the children at the "Glenelg" health camp. The committee and staff also thanks kind friends who anonymously sent a doll's bouse and a doll's bed to the camp. These gifts are proving a great source of pleasure to the children. British wives of New Zealand servicemen, who have recently arrived in the city, were yesterday entertained at a party held at the home of Mrs H. G. Livingstone, Riccarton road. Tea was provided by Mrs Livingstone and the committee of the women's section of the Returned Services' Association. Lady Duff, wife of the High Commissioner in New Zealand for the United Kingdom, welcomed the guests to the Dominion, where, she hoped, they would be very happy. Mrs G. J. H. Garton, convener of the Home Economics Association Garden Circle, entertained members of the circle at her home at Opawa on Wednesday, when her garden was gay and beautiful with summer flowers. Prizes for the most points gained in competitions during the year were awarded to Mrs L. W. Menzies and Mrs McKenzie. On behalf of members of the garden circle, Mrs R. A. Ambridge, president of the association, presented a gift to Mrs Garton and thanked her for her great practical interest in the circle. The association's drama circle concluded an interesting session with an evening social, at which a play was read, under the direction of the producer, Mrs Burton. Those taking part were Mesdames Baker, Winter, Neilson Hammersley, Miss Gates, and Miss Kilner. At the annual meeting, of the Parents* National Educational Union, held on Wednesday evening, an enjoyable programme was contributed by Miss Grace Torkington and Mr V H Reid (songs), Mrs R. S. Storie (accompanist), Mr F. A. L. Cookson (conjuring), and Mesdames H. Wyatt and R. J. McLaren (dramatic sketch)

The wedding took place at All Saints' Church, Rome, of Miss Mary Walker, W.A.A.C., only daughter of Colonel and the late Mrs W. R. C. Walker, late of Remuera, Tauranga and Cambridge, to Lieutenant-Colonel Bruce Graham, R.A., only son of Colonel and Mrs J. B. Graham, WestHartlepool, England. After the ceremony a reception was held at General Freyberg's suite at 1 the New Zealand Forces' Club, Rome. Lieutenant-Colonel and Mrs Graham will live in England.

A. personal message of appreciation from Madame Chiang Kai-shek to the Chinese Girls' Club in Auckland has been received through the wife of the Chinese Consul-General" in Wellington, Mrs Wang Feng, who said that Madame Chiang. Kai-shek had cabled her deep personal appreciation of the splendid patriotic support' of the Chinese women in New Zealand in the war effort. In view of the work still to be done, the Women's Advisory Council Relief Department, under the direct supervision of Madame Chiang iCai-shek, will continue the children's and other relief work until such time as it becomes unnecessary or Governm£W organisations take over. Meanwhile, the council looks for the continued support of the Chinese women in New Zealand.

F . lfty u pairs of new stockings and socks have been sent to UNRRA by th Pigeon Bay sub-centre of the Red Cross and at a recent meeting, at which Mrsß. Waghorn presided, it was decided to give to UNRRA first-aid kits, made, by members at the beginning of the war. A donation was received ,?? tne wom en of the Pigeon Bay soldiers' parcels fund to be spent on parcels for UNRRA, and three Christmas parcels for soldiers in hospitals were packed, ready to be sent to headquarters.

Mrs T. H McCombs presided at a well-attended meeting of mothers held recently m the Plunket rooms, Sumner, i A committee was elected to organise the establishment of a kindergarten in Sumner. Mesdames J. Lawrence and A. E. Dowgray were appointed to represent the committee at the next meeting of the Christchurch Free Kindergarten Association, and to apply for affiliation. Miss R. Wilkie gave an interesting address on kindergarten matters.
