THIEVES AT HASTINGS
(pfA.) HASTINGS, December 5. A smash and grab raid was made on a jeweller's shop in Hastings in the early hours of this morning After smashing a hole in the plate glass window of Kessell and Ingram's shop in Heretaunga street, the thief reached in and extracted a small collection of assorted rings. More valuable article! such as watches and fountain pens, as well as other rings,' were not disturbed. A beer bottle found by the police near the premises is believed to have been used to smash the window.
A daylight theft at tlie home of Mr. R. A. Colwill, of Pattison road, Hastings, occurred yesterday mornins shortly after 10 o'clock. The intrude! apparently entered the house through a tanhght, and after ransacking various rooms, left with an assortment of jewellery, clothing, and a small sum of money, all of which was apparently packed in a suitcase, for a suitcase is missing.
