Boring For Coal on Coast Boring for coal in an effort to ascertain the deposits available, and also data as to the depth, is being continued on an extensive scale throughout the West Coast, and in recent years- some valuable information has been secured by the Mines Department. The drilling superintendent (Mr R. McMillan) reports that boring is still being carried out in the Rewanui area as part of a programme of testing the' lower seams in that area. A bore in the Brunner district recently gave such favourable results that further boring in that vicinity has been found necessary. This is also part of an extensive programme of drilling operations extending from Brunner to the Mount Davy area. Access to this area is most difficult, said Mr McMillan, and it will be some time before many bores can be drilled. He added that eventually it would be necessary for the drilling and survey crews engaged to set up in camps on the spot to enable them to continue their exploratory work.
