SATURDAY CLOSING DISCUSSED
Lyttelton shopkeepers held a meeting yesterday to consider the effect of the ai ?. er J. ment , to the Shops and Offices Act which provides for Saturday closing. Mr F. H. Heal presided. The majority of those at the meeting were in favour of closing, the only question being whether the step should be taken at once or deferred until after Christmas, The meeting adjourned until Monday, the various trades sections to consult with their organisations in the meantime. Obituary Pilot Officer Jack Childs, who was reported missing during air operations over Germany about 18 months ago, and was recently officially declared presumed dead, was born in Lyttelton 33 years ago. He V a^ h j , e , elder son of Mrs and the late Mr J. Childs, and was educated at the Lyttelton District High School and {he Christchurch Technical College. He was a member of the Lyttelton Men’s Swim[5 lng 0,6 Te Whaka Tennis Club, the Lyttelton branch of Toe H and was a keen member of the Charteris Bay Golf Club Since a boy he had been an active member- of the Loyal City of Norwich P d °£;llows Lodge.
