GELATINE AND GLUE WORKERS A new award for gelatine and glue workers In Canterbury, was made recently by the Court of Arbitration. _ l"he aew minimum rates Of wages were Hxed as follows:—filtermeh on continuous shifts, 3s id an hour; other- shift workers 2sJljd an hour; grease filtermen (when filtering). 2s Wd an hour; man in charge of agar department, 2s lid'.; an hour; other in agar department, « 8id _ an . hour: men working .at lime' pits, 2s lOd an hour; workers not otherwise specified, •2s 7Jd ran hour, v Extra wages for special,work were fixed as. follows;—workers while * crushing' and bagging. Kesilghur, 3d an' hour: feeder and sewer while engaged: in crushing, bone-dust, 6d a ton; workers while engaged picking,and wheeling bones. Id an hour; worker? while loading pans from sulphur, vats, paid collectively is 9d a yat for trotter, and 5s 3d a vat for hide. I the money to be divided equally amongst each member of the gang; workers while engaged in .chipping boilers, 'digesters, or cleaning boiler flues, is an hour; provided nans arc unloaded whilst hot, workers unloading ;trotter-paris and glue-pans, who are actually, working in the pans. 9d a' pan; workers engaged shovelling and trimming sulphur in bulk. 6d an hour; workers emptying sewer settling pits, 6d an hour; workers (other than yardmen, or lime-pit , men) required to clean out lime-pits, 2d an hour. • The hours of work remain the same, but provision was made for a 10 minutes' smoko to be. allowed each morning and afternoon.
