EXILED JAPANESE FORCES
# 120,000 TO SETTLE ON REMBANG ISLAND - SINGAPORE. October 31. The Japanese have chosen the uninhabited island of Rembang, 30 miles from Singapore, as a place of exile for more than 120,000 Japanese soldiers and sailors, part of the forces which surrendered at Singapore. They will be carried to the island in old Japanese coasters for what may be two years' isolation before they are repatriated in Japanese ships. ' Rembang is 70 square miles in exlent. The Japanese will have to build their own living accommodation and cultivate the soil. One thousand have already arrived there. It is estimated that by next spring the whole force will be established on Rembang and one of the most difficult problems of the South-east Asia Command will be solved.
