CUSTOMS REVENUE INCREASE LAST MONTH There was a marked increase in customs revenue in Christchurch last month, compared with October, 1944, and, the revenue for the seven months of the financial year is now £169,829 more than for the corresponding period of last year. Detailed figures are as follows, those In parenthesis being the figures for 1944: October—Customs, £69,3C4 (£56,980); beer duty, £31,781 (£25,347); sales tax, £58,757 (£48,297); war expenses account, £173,423 (£141.923); total, £333,345 (£272,547). Seven months—Customs, £476.061 (£458,665); beerdluty, £175,676 (£154,311); sales tax, £360,778 (£322,978); war expenses account, £1,079,646 (£986,398); total, £2,092,181 (£1.922.352). AUCKLAND Customs returns for October at Auckland were as follows, the figures for the corresponding month last year being in parenthesis:—customs, £233,604 (£210,760); excise on beer, £49,571 (£43,674); sales tax, £133,863 (£116,364); war expenses account, £392,893 (£348,799). WELLINGTON October Customs returns for Wellington, with the 1944 figures in parenthesis, are: Net Customs, £243,725 (£239.635); sales tax, £122,553 (£107.764); beer' duty, £23,550 (£18,462); war tax, £443,257 (£383,587). DUNEDIN Customs returns in Dunedin for October, with the figures for' last October in parenthesis, are: Net Customs, £45,375 (£38,596): beer duty, £52.724 (£45,460); sales tax, £35,336 (£34,174); war expenses account, £140,676 (£131,039). COMPANY NEWS Alloy Steel (N.Z.)—The directors of Alloy Steel (N.Z.), Ltd., have declared an interim dividend, payable on October 31, of 3i per cent, for the half-year ended September 30.—( P.A.)
