♦ Sub-Inspector M. J. Anglnnd, of Rotorua, has been promoted to the rank of inspector and has been appointed to take charge of the Greymouth Police District. Dh R. J. Mcllroy, of Canterbury University College, has been admitted to the Fellowship of the Royal Institute of Che: listry of Great Britain and Ireland (F.R.1.C.). Dr. Mcllroy is lecturer in organic chemistry at the college, and has specialised on the chemistry of the celluloses. Mr James Raeside has been elected to the Associateship of the Royal Institute of Chemistry of Great Britain and Ireland (A.R.1.C.). Mr Raeside, who is a pedologist attached to the soil survey branch, is in charge of the South Canterbury district, and has specialised in soil erosion problems. Sympathy with the relatives of Mr J. S. Kelly, a former member of the reporting staff of “The Press,” was expressed at last evening’s meeting of the Heathcote County Council. Members stood in silence as a mark of respect to his memory.
