♦ . FRIDAY (Before Mr H. P. Lawry, S.M.) REMANDED Ernest Andrew Manchester, a dealer and seaman, aged 63, was remanded to to-day on a charge of bigamy, in 1939, at Palmerston North. IMPRISONMENT FOR DESERTION Leo Johnson, a seaman, aged 44, and Joseph Fredson, a seaman, aged 21, were charged with desertion. Johnson said that it was the first time he had missed a ship in 27 years. Fredson stated that conditions on the boat were bad. and that fighting had been frequent > Both accused were sentenced to one month's imprisonment. TRESPASSING Bernard Lewis Blackwell was charged with trespassing on the Riccarton racecourse during a race meeting, being a prohibited person. A fine of £3 was imposed.
