U.S. OPPOSED TO CONTROL MEASURES LONDON, September 18. The United Stales Secretary of the Interior (Mr H. L. lakes), interviewed in London before meeting the Minister of Fuel (Mr E. Shmwell) and the Chancellor of the Exchequer (Dr. Hugh Dalton) to-day to discuss Middle East oil, said ho hoped to see an agreement between Britain and America include other nations and become international, but “we do not contemplate control of prices or production. The more competitive these are the more the United States will be pleased.” Asked if thgre was any proposal to place world oil reserves at the disposal of the United Nations. Mr Ickes said: “I know that the American oil industry would not be prepared to subject itself to any organisation.” ~ . “Mr Ickes will submit to Mr Slunwell and Dr. Dalton a redraft of the British and American oil agreement reached in August, which is designed to meet objections by senators.
