APPEALS AGAINST SERVICE

♦- YESTERDAY’S DECISIONS An appeal by the Post and Telegraph Department for the retentiorl of the services of Harry Powell, a telephone exchange operator at Leeston, was opposed by the reservist at yesterday’s sitting of the No. 10 Armed Forces Appeal Board. Powell stated that he was keen to enter the Air Force. The board reserved its decision. Other decisions were given as follows; S. E. Jesson (Mrs R. V. Jesson), release recommended: P. J. R. Skjellerup (Marathon Rubber Footwear, Ltd.), release for a period of three months recommended; A. G. Brown, G. P. Hammett, and R. Falrweather (Tudor Hosiery. Ltd.), reserved: S. I. R. Hide (J. T. Hide), release recommended: M. L. Ruddle (W. H. Price and Sons, Ltd.), withdrawn; R. E. Bell (Municipal Electricity Department), withdrawn: I. J. Scott (North Canterbury Power Board), adjourned for review in December; H. J. Buchanan (G. W. Pearson and Sons), release recommended; W. Treasure (Railways Department), call up deferred until October 30. Sine die adjournments were granted on the following appeals;—A. Mitchell (P. F. Mitchell), C. B. O’Malley (Gilmore Bakery), B T. Byers (Duckworth, Turner and Company, Ltd.), L. J. Pocock (Railways Department), N. Barlass (Director of National Service). T. M. Hill (Mrs P. Hill), A. V. Withell (Paynter and Hamilton).
