The weather forecast for Canterbury Issued at 9 p.m. by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, and dealing with the 20 hours following the time of issue, is as follows; Situation; there Is an anti-cyclone east of the Dominion and a trough is approaching from the west. Forecast to 5 p.m.: north-easterly to northerly ■winds, fresh at times, weather cloudy, with rain In the Alps, and some scattered falls extending to the east. Temperatures rather cool. WEST COAST The forecast for the West Coast of the South Island is:— Northerly winds, fresh at times. Weather dull and cool, with Intermittent rain, heavy at times. CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER The weather was fine and for the most part sunny, yesterday, with a moderate north-east breeze. The maximum temperature was 47.9 degrees. At 1 o’clock this morning the sky vu clear with a moderate north-east breeze. The barometer, falling slowly, registered 30-lDin (1019.3 millibars).
